The Process

Getting the process started:

When collaborating with PressNY, you’re involved at every stage—from concept to delivery.

It’s important for us to understand your vision. You provide us with details about your project—images, color palette, music, childhood memories… Heck, send us your Pinterest board! Once you approve our interpretation of your goals, we get to work to bring it to life.

If you’ve planned every little detail, you can send us your files. If you simply have a few inspirational images, or are looking for creative direction, we’re ready to help!

We’ve worked with a wide variety of clients from all areas of creative and corporate fields. No idea is out of the question. 
We’re excited to discuss concepts and work together to create an exceptional experience and outcome. 

Estimates:

We would love to discuss your project to determine costs and timeline. See our FAQ page regarding what information you need to provide us so that we can give you the most accurate estimate possible.

Selecting materials:

If you’d like to come in for a visit, we’d love it, just reach out to make an appointment! However if you’re unable come in, we can also provide you with everything related to your project via email or phone, and paper swatches can be mailed to you. See our FAQ page to see the types of paper we carry in-house.

Turnaround times/Rush fees:

Every project is unique and turnaround varies based on our current workload as well as the scope of your vision. We’re an efficient crew of professional craftspeople, but won’t compromise excellence with haste. After our consultation, we will provide an estimate based on time and materials.

If an expedited turnaround is required, we can work with you to meet your needs, but rush fees may apply.

Payments:

We require a 50% deposit to start working on a project and the balance is due upon completion of the job.  If your project is canceled a week or more after the deposit has been paid, the deposit is non-refundable. No job will be shipped without final payment. Payment may be made with cash, check, credit card, Zelle, or ACH.

Design:

Whether you're working with an existing design or starting from square one, we're here to assist you in bringing your vision to life. If you need custom or extensive design work, we can connect you with amazing designers we’ve worked with who are familiar with letterpress and foil stamping processes.

Formatting your files to be print ready:

For artwork, vector-based files are the gold standard–you’ll get crisp clean lines. All art should be able to be turned to black. Letterpress and foil stamping are a relief printing process so anything you want printed must be able to be 100% solid–absolutely no grayscale.

Proofing your job:

We will provide you with a proof of your job before we print, so that you have the final say on what it will look like. 

Look over your proof very carefully and if possible, print it out, as phones and computer screens can be misleading. It’s also recommended that you re-check name spellings, dates, prefixes, time zones, and all other variables. Once you give approval, the plates will be made and all revisions may incur additional fees and time. 

Printing plates:

Printing plates are made for each job and different materials are used depending on the medium. We use copper plates for foil stamping and polymer for most letterpress ink runs. The cost of plates usually depends on their size and will be included in your quote. 

For jobs that generally would not be repeated (invitations, announcements, menus, etc.), we will hold the plates until after the date of the event. If you would like to keep your plates as a memento, please let us know at the start of your job so we can set them aside to be returned to you.

Press checks:

So you want to come in and make sure that everything looks great and we nailed the color you were dreaming of...

We love press checks because we’ll know that you’re getting exactly what you want, and we like visitors!
If you’d like to come in for a press check, just let us know and we’ll schedule a time.

We mix all of our colors by hand to your specs. If you’re not sure about your color, you can come in for a press check when your job is being done, or you can send us a swatch to match. Keep in mind that digital and physical colors often vary.

Social media policy:

We love to share our creative collaborations with the world. If we don’t receive specific instructions from you indicating otherwise, we’ll likely responsibly post images of your project online. We will not share personal information, such as venues or addresses and will always wait until the event has passed to put it up.

Delivery:

When your project is done and dry, you’re welcome to pick it up or we can have it delivered to you through your preferred method–anywhere you like. If you choose to have it messengered or shipped, we will schedule it, give you all the details, and add it to the final bill.
